Marry My Husband – Japan Episode Eight

Episode eight begins with a flashback to Reina’s childhood. She chases after her mother, is left with her father and unwanted by her step mother. She gives her mother a mother’s day gift, but just gets yelled at. One day she comes home to find her mother on the railing of the balcony, saying she’s going to kill herself. She throws a glass at her daughter and then falls over the railing. After the funeral her father tells her he’s moving and can’t take her with him. She’s to be left with relatives. The step mother gives her some friendship bracelets.

Later, she comes across young Misa crying in the park, gives her one of the bracelets, and tells her that she’ll be Misa’s friend.

In the present, Reina returns home. Tomoya calls her, angry and tells her to get to his parents house. She hangs up. She finds old pictures of her and Misa. Flashback to them promising to be best friends forever. She sets the pictures on fire.

Back to Misa and her friends. She leaves the dinner to go to a neighbouring apartment she is now renting to look for wasabi. Miku asks her brother why Misa doesn’t just move in with him and he says they aren’t in that kind of relationship.

They celebrate the new year’s countdown and then watch the first sunrise together. Wataru gives Misa a white envelope.

At a hospital, Misa gets an MRI. Wataru’s gift to her was a health check up. Flashback to times he said things that imply he might know the future. She asks him if there’s something he hasn’t told her. She asks if he ever met her father but he doesn’t get to answer.

The restaurant they frequented closes.

Reina goes to the real estate office, pretending to be Misa.

At work, Tomoya looks miserable, people are talking behind his back. He gets a call from a debt collector.

During lunch, Sumiyoshi tells Misa and Miku that her husband is cheating. They offer to go with her to catch him in the act. They go to the girl’s apartment. Things play out like the beginning of episode one, when Misa caught Tomoya and Reina together. Misa prevents Sumiyoshi from falling over the balcony but then she suddenly clutches her stomach in pain, collapses and falls down the stairs.

At the hospital, Sumiyoshi has survived but the interaction with the doctor is like Misa’s before. It looks like Misa’s fate was transferred to Sumiyoshi.

Tomoya finally comes clean to Reina about his debt and she tells him that she lied about being pregnant and blames Misa for tricking her into stealing him. Reina vows to ruin Misa’s happiness. Tomoya’s mother overheard everything and collapses in the doorway.

At work, Sumiyoshi tells Misa she has cancer and asks her to take over the project they’ve been working on while Sumiyoshi gets treatment. Misa is devastated. Her own health exam came back as excellent.

At the end of the work day, Misa calls Wataru to ask if he has some time. Near the end of the call, Tomoya shows up. He starts blaming her for his life being ruined and attacks her. Wataru finds her bag on the ground. He saves Misa from being strangled and Tomoya tries to choke him too, but Misa pushes him away. Tomoya tells her it’s her turn to take responsibility for her actions and that she deserves to die for what she’s done.

Wataru takes her to a safe place and she treats a wound on his hand. She tells him everything, but instead of revealing he too came back after dying, he basically calls her crazy and says they won’t meet in private again.

Wataru goes to meet Tanbe at his cafe, then to the airport.
